They're ok, but do you know those super cheap shoes at Walmart? You touch on the quality of these...they have fairly stiff soles with the rubber tread coming off fairly quickly (as others have said). The insoles are not very soft or suitable and like the soles the fabric comes off fairly quickly (a weekend and a 7 mile hike). So for almost $50 I have to give them a very low rating
