No programming required! I read a review here that said inserting the circuit board from your original key fob into the new one. Decided to give it a try as I had nothing to lose. Viola! I thought I was dreaming! With my original key fob, the only button *open door* worked and only if it wasn't too cold outside or I was near my car (even with a brand new battery). After switching the circuit board, I was able to remotely start the car, open the trunk, lock the doors, etc. Then I tried the same thing with the second key fob. A contact point had to be soldered because it came loose when the battery was switched. After converting this board into a new keychain case, it ALSO works (without soldering the contact)! Try it, it's worth it! I don't know how long this will take, but going from one key fob that didn't work and another that just opened the door to two fully working key fobs is amazing! (Of course I saved the circuit boards from the new fob and my old cases in case I need to program them in the future.)
