Review on πŸ”† IJDMTOY Universal LED Daytime Running Light Controller: Effortless ON/OFF Automation by Shedrick Roach

Useless garbage. on electrics

I'm very pissed off because overall this thing promised everything I wanted it to and actually did for about a month before completely dying. The concept is good: you have a hot, cold, trigger and headlight dimming trigger, plus trigger leads for the turn signals on either side to turn off the DRL for that side: so far, so good. I personally skipped the trigger for each signal and connected the primary trigger to both my ASD relay and my turn signal with a couple of 12v diodes in between to avoid cross currents. Basically: if my turn signal was flashing (like it happens when the car is unlocked) or if the engine was running, the DRL would kick in and stay on for 15 seconds. I also hooked up a headlight dimmer because why not. So first of all the passenger side just died completely. No explanation, no drama, it just stopped turning on. I connected the DRLs on both sides to the circuit on the driver's side and they worked again. Mind you, in total the two LED rings I used drew around 500mAh of power: as with most LEDs, that's practically nothing, so this controller won't be overloaded even with both running on the same side. It worked for a few more months and now the DRLs flicker like crazy when on so I'm guessing some crappy LED driver in there is completely out of whack now. I contacted the manufacturer for a replacement, but they did it first: 1) Just quoted a vague policy that the unit could not be 'modified' and specifically said things like connectors couldn't be removed, which *of course I did* because they give you about 4 feet of wire for each connector and I didn't want a coil of damn wire in my engine bay right above the fan belt and because the trigger wires were literally just wires and how else could I install them without soldering and splicing 2 ) I had to return the power first. Inserted disposable electronics for $22. For what possible reason? I guess I did exactly what happened: it didn't bother me and that's why I didn't get a replacement. All in all $23 for wasted time and a bit of a headache for a few months. Don't buy this.
