When I first got my flamethrower (as I like to call it) it worked fine at times. It always produced a large yellow flame, but sometimes it flashed and sounded like a small rocket engine with an almost invisible flame. The big yellow flame is great for playing with fire, but the rocket engine flame burns weeds incredibly fast. Honestly, I think many users will never experience the full power of this device. It took me a while to figure out the secret of how to get it consistently. Eventually, after re-reading the instructions, I realized that what the manufacturer calls the "POL relief valve" was to blame. They just weren't descriptive enough to get to my brain. Here's a way to achieve amazing power! First, fully close the tank valve, then fully open the flame control valve to drain the hose. Now fully close the flame control valve. SLOWLY open the tank valve. I mean REALLY SLOW! I think the first quarter turn should take a few seconds. This is important to avoid tripping the POL relief valve. Once the tank valve is fully open, open the flame control valve two full turns and immediately ignite the flame (BE CAREFUL NOT TO BURN YOURSELF). If you see a large yellow flame and no rocket engine sound, you are either very low on gas or you have tripped the POL relief valve (in which case you will have to start over). With the right lighting, this thing deserves 6 stars.
