This everyday backpack is very comfortable. I traveled with him through Costa Rica during the rainy season. No, it is not waterproof but it is water resistant. I just put my essentials in ziplock bags and everything was fine. Even in a downpour, the inside of the bag was slightly damp. I kept my headphones in a small pocket inside, not a zippered pocket, and this pocket kept them dry. In addition, the bag dries quickly, which is very convenient. It's comfortable and light, but strong enough that I can tie heavy items like hiking boots on the outside for short trips. For longer hikes, in addition to the chest strap, I loosen the hanging straps and tie them in a simple knot on the stomach for extra support.
