Review on 😴 SleepRight Dura-Comfort Dental Guard: Stop Teeth Grinding with this Effective Mouth Guard by Thomas Mertz

Much more than it looks in the pictures

I always chew on my protective gear in my sleep including a recent $400 remedy from my TMJ specialist. I'm in dire need of a new one, but I'm trying not to go anywhere during a pandemic and not sit with my mouth open. However, without a bite guard I had severe headaches and facial pain, so I had to try something. I've used pretty much every type of pre-made bite guard on Revain and they were usually too bulky and I spat them out in my sleep. I had high hopes for this one as it is only on the molars and is adjustable. Here are the good and the bad after the first night: Cons: - This thing is THICK, much bigger than the pictures show and I don't just mean the part you bite. The sliding adjustment part makes it really thick. Even though it's on my molars, it still looks like I'm wearing a sports mouthpiece. - I could never get it to stay in a comfortable position, and because it was flexible and adjustable, it easily adjusted around my mouth while I slept. One day I woke up and somehow it landed on my upper teeth. - Adjuster sliders on the sides rubbed the inside of my cheeks and the outside dug into my gum on the right side. However, the right side of my face was swollen due to TMD so it may have only been rubbing on one side - I think this would work much better if the narrow part that goes through your front teeth was shaped harder and wasn't as thin. You can lay this thing flat on a table - it's not tight at all and I can see why it is, but a little less flexibility would really help it stay in place. "Because it's so loose, I had to bite down on it to keep it in place. Probably not good for an extreme squeezer like me. - I woke up twice without it in my mouth so I had to burrow into my bed, get up, rinse it out and put it back in. Pros: - This is the first day in a week that I don't wake up with severe jaw pain. So it really helped even though I didn't stay in one place. I'm still in pain, but I really didn't expect an overnight miracle from a $24 device. - It's thick, so if I could hold it in place, I don't think I'd chew it up as quickly as my doctor's thin ones. It gets 3 stars because it REALLY helped with my jaw pain, but it's definitely not a long-term solution for me. I can't wake up multiple times each night because my bite guard is moving and I can't learn to disengage it when I have to squeeze it to keep it in place. So let's go back to square one and try another over-the-counter bite guard.
