I recommend the transparent Beastie for beginners. I use mine almost every day and have gotten used to their density. It doesn't take long to find out. Knots really break up knots and can be positioned to get under tight spots like the shoulder blade. The base is well made and solid. I would recommend mounting it on the wall. When using it on the floor, I found that the base isn't high enough to untangle knots in my hamstrings, but it works.
