Review on πŸ’Ύ Inateck FE2005: USB 3.0 Hard Drive Enclosure - Tool-Free SSD Case with UASP Support by James Womble

Works well enough but seems cheap

In this case I installed a Samsung 860 EVO 1TB drive and it works fine although I haven't run a throughput test. Installation went well, but even with the instructions, it was a bit difficult to figure out how the pieces slide together. Cheap plastic didn't help, I was afraid to break it. But the hard drive performed well and I mainly use it for macOS Time Machine backups, which are fast. I wish the blue LED was on the front instead of the back with the USB-C connector. I like to see the light, so routing the cable out the opposite end from where the light is allows for better cable management when it's on placed on my desk. Next to the light is a lock/unlock switch. I think this should prevent the case from opening in the locked position. I'm not sure what the point is; If someone wanted to steal the CD, wouldn't they take over the whole case? Maybe to prevent accidental opening, but the two pieces are already quite tight so I'm not sure if that's necessary. I'd rather have an on/off switch so I can leave it plugged in and just turn it on when needed. Overall it gets the job done, it just seems a little cheap and better when the light is on the other side.

Pros
  • Hard drive accessory
Cons
  • Power socket required
