Let me first say that I like how this little lighter works. These are gadgets, they suit my restless nature perfectly and they are just cool. While this review may appear negative in general, I think it's worth pointing out the areas where this product has fallen short of my expectations. 1) Important: the size of the area where the plasma arc is located. From what I've seen and read about this little lighter it seemed like it would work great for the little cigarillos I like - they're no bigger in diameter than cigarettes. However, the area where the arc is /very small/ and when I first used this lighter I only partially lit the cigarillo. In trying to fix this I ended up with a partially lit piece of cigarillo next to the gray plastic next to the lighting area and since that area is entirely plastic it immediately melted leaving a scar. So the lesson here is: be careful with your light, as re-lighting or compensating for bad light isn't really an option without melting the lighter itself. And while I understand the use of plastic due to the cost and lightness of the device, perhaps something more heat resistant would be better for this part of the lighter (design recommendation?). See photo. 2) While I like the feel of rubberized plastic in general, the flexing of the lid (especially near the hinge) has me concerned about the lifespan of the product. The hinge feels fragile, and if either of you are as fussy and clumsy as I am, you can damage the plastic around the hinge or the hinge itself by opening and closing it. And while this is bad for any lighter, I consider it a critical flaw for this type of lighter as there is no other protection against the ignition mechanism. Without the lid, any push of the button will start a fire. Zippos lighters and other lighters require a hammer action, or at least the push of a button, to open the fuel valve and ignite the fuel. This button requires a very small push and ignition is instantaneous. So the day I break the noose is the day this lighter will be retired. That being said, I still love the idea and look forward to future iterations that improve on these shortcomings. The manufacturer has already fixed the flashlight issue (I have no flashlight issues!) and one of the questions mentions that they make a flashlight with a larger spark area for cigars, so I'm glad they're moving forward. forward with variations of the design.
