I've been making masks since the pandemic began, starting with every stretchy fabric I had on hand or could reach for ear straps, including cut t-shirts, stretchy, thin elastic cords , very thin elastic cords and finally this soft elastic rope. This is the same or similar to what I have found on surgical masks. It is the most convenient and easy to work with. My husband hated the straps behind the ears and advocated having them start around the head, which I hated. Since I make masks for friends and family, I use an in-picture design that allows the user to decide if they want behind the ears or behind the head. I use thin wire to thread the elastic cord through the washers. You can't go wrong with this purchase.
