Review on Bushnell Sport 450 Laser Rangefinder with Yardage Pro by Jason Porter

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Ideal for anchoring a sailboat

Basically works great! We use our range finder to estimate the distance from our boat to shore, to other boats, and to everything around us. Typical distances are 20 to 200 yards. We bought the cheapest range finder we could find because we didn't need accuracy, we didn't need long range and we weren't sure we would need it. It turns out we use it all the time and recommend it to all our sailing friends. We would buy the same machine again, but I would change three things about it. First, the device is about 1/2 inch longer than the included case - it fits, but the case doesn't close completely. Very annoying! Second, seafarers usually measure feet or meters, and those units are yards. It's easy enough to multiply by three, but at the end of a long day when you're trying to calculate the distances between a rocky point, a mooring buoy and two other boats, it's a good idea to avoid third parties, I'd add Add a display backlight for twilight and nighttime use - the device is measuring, you just don't see the reticle and you can't read the distance until you look at the light.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Vulgarity
