We've replaced all our baby essentials with this. They got used to the spatulas and I've tried switching them to forks and spoons with little success. They will try to decide whether to use a fork or a spoon when eating different things on their plate. That allows me to give you a dish and you can find out. The handle is long enough so that the hand does not interfere with eating. Some may find the width of the handle a bit uncomfortable, but it does prevent the spoon/spoon from slipping. I wouldn't say the spoon is deep enough for eating soup, but for porridge it definitely can. Material - very durable plastic with satin finish. This variety doesn't have a knife on the edge of the fork like some other similar devices, but I honestly didn't find it very useful. I love her.
