Review on Overdrive by Stanley Redline

OverDrive offers a number of different services to help you get the most out of your library resources.

I love the fact that this tool gives me access to the power of Google Apps without having to install anything on my server, but I have to say that it feels like a bit of a compromise compared to what I am used to working with. The whole process of creating a new website is pretty much the same whether you use the free version or the paid version. You start off by selecting the template you want to use from a selection of templates that you create yourself, choose your layout (grid or text), select any modules you wish to add to your site and enter the required information. This includes choosing your domain name, deciding whether you want to use SSL or not, adding your logo and customising your colour scheme. You can also upload any existing files you have to use on your website, such as documents, images, video and audio clips, and you can use your Google Drive account to share these files with your clients. When you are happy with the look and feel of your site, you can click 'Publish' and view it online.

Pros
  • If you are comfortable working within word processor document, this is a powerful tool because you don't need to learn anything complex - everything can be edited via word processor;
  • OverDrive can be integrated with Google Apps so you can publish to web sites automatically through Google drive.
Cons
  • The lack of an option to embed/embeddable options
  • Lack of social sharing options.
