This is one of the best heat guns you can buy. A decent heat gun with a non-replaceable cartridge and non-replaceable carbon brushes can cost upwards of $50. Replacement carbon brushes, which are likely the first item on any tool, typically cost around $10. A $50 pistol can last about 500-1500 hours and then throw it away. A cheap gun can burn through the first day of use. A constant thermal load of over 1400 watts puts a heavy strain on the motor windings, which is why most heat guns are only rated for 2-6 amps. As you note, the amperage rating of this gun is 12 amps, which is a lot for a heat gun. That's why this weapon costs extra money. If you know you're going to use it to finish all your side trims or all your window frames or all your crown molding or kitchen cabinets etc then this is the gun for you. 12 amps vs 4 amps if both put out 1400 watts of power (1500 amps is the maximum for a household outlet) then theoretically a 12 amp gun has a 1/3 chance of burning out. The flat back is good as the tip of these pistols feels hot, like scalding. Hope this review helped!
