Review on Premium Quality Wooden Spoon Ladle Set For Effortless Cooking And Serving - Two Sizes Included, 14-Inch And 11-Inch by Matt Wigfall

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Spoons have a hard coating on them.

The spoons seem like they would last and I like the size, but they are coated with a finish, and it isn't oil on natural wood.Like other reviewers, I thought I was getting two spoons, but the set also included a spatula (even though the box was marked "2 Wooden Spoons"). The spatula had splintered a bit near the top of the handle. Since it was a freebie, I decided to sand the splinter down. It didn't take much sanding to uncover the bare wood under the thin layer of what appears to be an acrylic coating. I have no idea what it is, nor can I find any information about it. The info presented at Best Buy by the manufacturer says that the spoons are oiled, but the finish is clearly not oil. There are some finishes, such as shellac and some polyurethanes, that are considered to be food-safe, but it would be nice to know if the finish on these spoons is one that's considered safe.

Pros
  • Excellent product! Very nice finish and works very well!
Cons
  • The spoons may develop a rough texture over time, making them less comfortable to use
