You may need to purchase a double pack to fill the Sunsun canister shell. I bought this 3 pack plus. The filter, which I luckily bought, came with media packs so I had enough to fill the bowls nicely. I rinsed the charcoal bags thoroughly but they still colored my water like hell so I just threw them away. The tank runs clean and well after one cycle. This cheap stuff is great for my aquarium with two red-eared sliders and they are definitely some dirty guys. Next time I buy a carrier I can replace/add the rings with cheap lava rock and try that. - Note I just put the whole mesh bag with the medium in the trays, no need to throw them in the trays, make sure there are no shards in the ceramic rings.
