I needed to make custom jambs for three doors and bought this block to finish with the hinges. The supplied guides/bearing templates fit easily on the supplied hinges of the doors. However, I had an interior/exterior door that also required a custom jamb and had larger hinges than this unit could handle. So I had to lay the loops manually. It turns out it's really easy. Simply loop around the loop, use a utility knife to cut the wood a little deeper than planned, then just freehand. This gives nice clean edges as the wood will splinter as the mass approaches the mark. The biggest problem will be setting the depth of the loop, which this device does for you for matching loops. But the depth of the hinge is simple - it's what it is on the door itself. Just measure it for a door and you have a jamb depth measurement.
