Use this because the headphone jack on my laptop broke. It is needed for online conferencing and everything else. Not a bad buy. It comes with a USB cable, so you don't have to connect your sound card directly to your computer. This way, you can still connect other devices to nearby USB ports. IMPORTANT NOTE. Apparently, this adapter has a built-in microphone, so you don't even have to plug a microphone into it. That is interesting. If you prefer privacy, make sure this microphone is disabled in the control panel. UPDATE - A few months later It is becoming increasingly difficult to get sound out of this unit. You'll find yourself popping it in and out of your USB stick trying to get it to work. Then, if you move around too much with your headphones on, fiddle with this device to get the audio back. It's just very sensitive. The flashing blue light is also annoying. No USB audio beats the headphone jack that came with your computer.
