The legs worked fine but I needed more tools to stabilize them.
So I removed the black ends of the legs. I then used it in the middle for a firmer wedge/grip. I also used a folded piece of cardboard to fill the gap, but once I had straight staples there was no need for cardboard. The photos show the braces I used, instructions on how to remove the tape, and the finished product.
