Dry feet and comfort are not the same

I just took these socks on a canoe trip and put them on under my sandals. I haven't done anything too strenuous in them so can't comment on how breathable they are in harsher conditions, but I haven't broken a sweat in them camping or on a quiet hike. My main complaint relates to this. the type of waterproof sock in general, not so much about this specific product. The waterproof membrane is sandwiched between two layers of regular sock fabric, meaning the outside absorbs water like regular socks. Although the membrane prevents water from penetrating the skin. The sock still feels cold and wet, which is why your foot feels cold and wet even when it isn't. I'm sure over the course of a few days of use this will make an important difference - of course keeping your feet dry is important. But in the short term, these socks won't keep your feet from feeling wet and cold. For example, if you wear these socks with wet sandals, your feet will feel wet and cold until the sandals are dry. The socks also began to roll and showed wear at the instep where the sandal straps crossed after only a few hours. They were brand new and I can't tell how much worse the peeling would get but I was disappointed to see signs of wear so quickly. Another thing to note is that they don't fit as tight as a regular pair. socks. Because of the membrane, they are not as elastic. I assume this applies to all waterproof socks, not just this brand, but I can't say for sure. They fit like a cross between a sock and a diving boot.
