Opening the quick link worked great. However, I had trouble closing the link. In my experience you can close the SRAM link manually. However, the Shimano link requires a bit more strength, which is apparently what this tool was designed for. However, the little protrusion that keeps the pliers from opening too far isn't designed properly or something. This would prevent the pliers from opening wide enough to close the connection. I fixed it by taking it apart and sanding the lip. Then it worked fine.
