Listen to the reviews, you can't get any closer!

We should have listened to the reviews, despite what it says, this is only for opening and not closing links. Several reviewers have said this and I thought they were just using it incorrectly. I've tried everything and there's no way to open this thing wide enough to close a link in a normal thread. I ended up taking another reviewer's advice and using a dremel to sand down the bulge that is preventing it from opening too far. Now it works as both normally open and normally open!

Great for opening links, had trouble closing.

Opening the quick link worked great. However, I had trouble closing the link. In my experience you can close the SRAM link manually. However, the Shimano link requires a bit more strength, which is apparently what this tool was designed for. However, the little protrusion that keeps the pliers from opening too far isn't designed properly or something. This would prevent the pliers from opening wide enough to close the connection. I fixed it by taking it apart and sanding the lip. Then it worked

Makes chain removal and replacement easier

Bought this when I lost the master link while changing chain. Also bought a replacement master link. If you've tried removing the master link by hand without chain pliers, you know it's almost impossible to do, even if it's brand new. This tool makes it easy. Jump out now. (Just don't drop either half on the floor like I do.) My buying criterion for bike specialty tools: Every purchase should immediately double the value because I don't have to take my bike to the local bike shop, pay, and then

Very high quality and reliable tool!

I've been buying Park Tools for twenty years just to fix my bike but when the chain pliers finally wore out I took a chance and bought this Oumers brand. Can't tell if they will last twenty years like my Park Tools version, but my first impression is that these are a sturdy little pair of pliers, very well made and finished, no rough edges, with a strong return spring and a clasp on the handle, and they painted. with a thick layer of charcoal paint to prevent oxidation in your garage in winter!

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Negative gift

These pliers work well. Some reviewers complain that they can only open but not close the link because they try to put both jaws in the center of the quicklink. That is not right. The correct way to use the chain pliers is to insert *one* jaw into the quick link and the other jaw into the adjacent pair of chain plates. The pliers will open and hold in place. Slightly pull the handles to the side and the link will pop out and lock into place. Even easier: You don't even need pliers for this…

Works with Shimano quick links BUT

I bought this chain tool specifically for Shimano quick links. Most other brands of quick links, like KMC, can be closed with a good chain hoist without tools, but Shimano chains require a bit more strength. , otherwise it will prevent the jaws from opening wide enough. It took me about 10 minutes with a milling file. Then it worked perfectly: slip the jaws around the outer (not inner!) quick connector, then a quick spread of the grips (like you break the wishbone) completely closes the…

Persistent; can't beat the price.

I've been a long time fan of SRAM Powerlink but have never needed a puller until now (mainly with 8 speed chains and PC-1 chains as I use sprocket hubs on their bikes). However, I found myself in a dilemma with my son's brand new bike with a KMC 10 speed chain with their "MissingLink Connector" (KMC's name for a master link similar to SRAM's Powerlink). I couldn't let go of this thing. Restore same-day delivery for help. For the price, I gave this tool a try, although I also bought the…

One Way Not Good Enough

Wanted to save a few bucks and replace my chain, already had a chain tool but needed it for quick communication. Well, it's only good for one direction and will help you REMOVE the quick connect. When REPLACING a link in a new chain, as mentioned by another reviewer, the tool WILL NOT OPEN IN ENOUGH PART due to the limit screw/protrusion. This was very annoying and prevented me from fully assembling the chain. Next stop is a bike shop to finish the job. I had to spend a few bucks more on a Park

Opens every link but most likely just closes KMC

Received it late which seems to be becoming a trend lately. However, here are my thoughts: 1. As many have said, this tool is actually poorly designed. As you will see in my second photo, the tool is open to its maximum position but barely touching one side of my KMC chain that I use on my track bike. It can hardly shut down KMC. However, I can confirm what others say that it will be very difficult to close a Shimano, SRAM or Campagnolo chain with a missing link. This is because the last three…
