We carefully measured Sorcha here on the front page. She was definitely the right size for XL based on our measurements and the seller's chart. This is a German Shepherd weighing just over 100 pounds. with very large muscular front legs, cheeks, shoulders and neck. Your waist is relatively small. We got this PFD (Personal Flotation Dog?) life jacket because my wife wants Sorcha to be with us when we kayak or kayak. While Sorcha does well in water, her strong musculature and bone structure allow her to swim deeper than most dogs. Therefore, she is not enthusiastic about swimming. We're also concerned that if she falls overboard in the middle of a large lake, swimming to shore will strain her if she has to do so without additional buoyancy. We don't understand how we can bring back such a big dog. Kayak or kayak when it falls into the drink. Although we were as careful as possible, the jacket does not fit well. The neck and chest/waist straps work, but the body of the device is too small so we can't attach the velcro. This makes Sorcha somewhat float in the vest, rather than the vest and dog combo making her buoyant. We plan to fiddle with the straps a bit to get a good fit, but it won't be as good as we hoped. However, it is better than nothing in the long run. There is a top handle and a loop for attaching a leash. So if she goes into the water we can tie the line and tow her to shore. When that happens, it certainly won't be her favorite walk on the lake, but it's better than either of us jumping into the water to save a swimmer. The eye can also pick up a leash when we are on dry land. Please see the photo of Sorcha testing the system. We're not sure if a dog in a kayak or on a paddleboard is a good idea, but at least with that it will be a safe idea.
