Connect to your iPhone or iPad. Now open the Photos app. Make sure you see the sidebar. If not, click the arrow in the top left corner. Now search for devices and your photos can be imported. The instructions are incorrect for iOS 13 and later. It works well, but it's not clear how to work with it.
