Review on πŸ’‘ Reliable Power Solutions: Introducing the Remy 94125 New Alternator by Bryan Cavalcante

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Precise fit. But the quality is a little lower than Denso.

I was playing house money with 230,000 on the odometer on my 2005 Accord. The diode eventually leaked, requiring the alternator to be replaced or rebuilt. After research, I preferred this new Remy block to the rebuilt one, which is always rolled, regardless of brand, with the exception of Denso. First, it's made in China, not the US, but at a price I didn't expect to be US-built. The product description is outdated. It got up normally, it spins, it outputs 14.4V under load, so there are no complaints about functionality. However, upon inspection it looks a little worse than the stock Denso alternator that Honda uses, but much better than the occasional unnamed Chinese-made alternator I've seen. For example, the rear deck panel and decklid flange are made of high-density polyethylene, not nylon or phenolic like the original. The bearings rotate freely, but without jerking or binding. The packaging does not stand up to the rigors of handling and transport. This is more for handling brick and mortar shelving. The plastic flange of the rubber sleeve of the output terminal broke off during transport and was loose in the box when it was opened. I put it back in and it worked fine. It really isn't much of a problem justifying a refund or anything like that. Just remember. So far I think it's great value for money. Less than half the cost of a new Denso and a fair bit less than a remanufactured Denso, and it looks way better than any of the mysterious rebuilds or nameless new alternators. Remy has more skin in it and has been around as a company for a long time. Time will tell how the bearings and brushes hold up, but in the meantime I can repair my original alternator locally. I will update my review in a year.
