This review is a special warning to Series 3 shaver owners who need to replace their old one. If you don't already have a Series 3 cleaning and charging system, then you can ignore this review. But if you're replacing an old Series 3, learn from my mistake. I had an older Series 3 that came with a docking station that allowed it to be cleaned and charged at the same time. This turns out to be a very useful feature for busy people, which is why I relied on it, although small cartridges are pretty expensive and definitely not very eco-friendly as they can't be refilled. A few years later my razor's trimmer broke so I needed a new one. To be fair, they don't last forever. So I just wanted to buy a new shaver that would fit the docking station I already had and still work great. I look up and find a new Series 3 just like the one I had. Get it and find that this shaver fits EXACTLY into the dock and charges. Great. However, Braun places a sensor in the dock to specifically ensure that you cannot use this shaver in a cleaning/charging station. He's looking for something on one of the little bumps on the back of the trimmer - if it's not on the razor then there's no cleaner activation. This razor doesn't have that. Basically they force you to buy a new dock every time a Razor dies. You can't just replace the razor and keep your existing dock. Or at least you can't replace a razor with what appears to be the top of the line 3-series razor you can buy without a new cleaner. This is a good razor, it works well - as long as you hold it. Clean and change heads regularly. Note, however, that Braun specifically designed their cleaning system not to work with this shaver because they want to soak you for the new dock. There's no excuse for intentionally excluding what the dock is looking for in this razor - it's an exact clone of my old razor in every other way. I absolutely need or do without the self-cleaning function and am giving away a half-full box of replacement cartridges that I already have. Great. Braun knows exactly how to treat its loyal customers properly. I think I've bought half a dozen Braun razors but this may be the last I'll ever buy.
