Replacing the Comcast modem with my own new Arris Touchstone cable modem was easy (actually my husband replaced it for me because he's just a nice guy but no problem). I got it on 11/5. received and on 7.11. Installed. Called Comcast 800# at 8:35pm and spoke to someone offshore. Told the rep I have my own spare Comcast modem and provided the serial number and CMAC number. The representative then sent it for activation. I checked the modem for the lights and was relieved to see that they were all green and blinking amber! After restarting my computer, the internet connection was instant and browsing was faster, or I'm just glad it's working. On my phone, the call took about 22 minutes from start to finish. My Comcast cable is also connected to this modem and there are no connection problems. The rep told me that as soon as I replaced the modem, modem loading became inactive, but we'll see. Label with serial number and CMAC number.
