I have used many print servers for personal use. It seems to most that to work you need to install many different utilities to configure the software. Many of these utilities simplify the installation and configuration of the print server. However, these utilities are often created only for Windows and are therefore not easy to install on other operating systems. Therefore, when I received this device, I expected a quick and easy setup in Windows and a long 3-4 hour marathon to set it up in Mac OS X. I was pleasantly surprised to find that wasn't the case. to start the device in the Windows system. The included CD contains a Windows-only utility that is simply run from the CD to set up the print server for the first time. After the print server has been configured according to the instructions in the Windows Printer Setup Guide. I then proceeded to what I expected to be a more complex installation: Mac OS X. I tried to follow the instructions in the manual. instructions and found that they are outdated and therefore not working properly. I then tried to manually add a printer connected to the print server using Bonjour/Appletalk, but that failed. I then manually added a new printer, selected an IP printer, entered the print server's IP address (192.168.0.5, it will likely differ in your own configuration) and queue (P1) and the appropriate printer driver from the drop selected -down list. field in the settings window. I then tried to print a test page and got pages and pages of text indicating some kind of network error. Hoping that a reboot would fix everything, I rebooted the system and tried to print again, this time the printer set up correctly and printed without any fuss. I then set up a printer on another Mac system, and after a reboot, that computer was also able to print without any problems. Overall, the installation took about 20 minutes on the first Macintosh and only a few seconds (minus the reboot time) on subsequent systems. As a result, the print server works quite well. I respect the company very much for not having to install their own resources using the print server setup utilities, and I also respect the use of a browser-based print server configuration in case there is no Windows system or the installation CD is lost. . . Overall, the print server exceeded my expectations. Note. Many reviews point to the need to reconfigure the print server using the installation CD if the router/print server loses power. To fix this, simply have your router reserve an IP address for the print server. This is easy to do in almost all router configuration menus.
