No suction at all, hangs right on the rearview mirror. I bought two, one as a gift for my boyfriend who uses it every day with his Samsung 8 and one for my iPhone 11max with a tough case. As soon as I took mine out of the box, one of the small tilt head mounting screws fell under my car seat and I couldn't get it out. I also found that I couldn't use it because it's too small for my iPhone case, the designers didn't calculate the extra width of the rugged case. I went back to my old suction cup phone holder which still works. I gave it two stars because at least my friend uses it.
