I am very impressed with the functionality of the controller. Commonly used functions are one click. It only has 5 buttons but they do what you need when recording. One button toggles the mic on and off, one takes a photo, one saves the current video segment to prevent deletion (and the UI will surely let you know it's saving the segment), one toggles recording on and off, and one others show the screen (when the screensaver is on and long press puts the camera to sleep mode. Other cameras I've worked with aren't as comfortable. Although the menu operation is fairly similar to other cameras, the button layout is more intuitive and I found not hitting the wrong button or exiting the menu is random like other cameras. The form factor is a compromise. My car has a very steeply sloped windshield which makes it very difficult to see the screen, er is on the edge and not facing the driver, this is compensated for by the ability to remove the camera off-road where they are few r attracts attention. In any case, you don't need to look at the screen much while driving and sensible button functions make it even less necessary: For example, you can switch off the microphone at the touch of a button instead of manually. The GPS mount is attached to the windshield and the camera fixed in it. This makes it easier to remove the camera. There's also a non-GPS mount so you can attach the camera to a second vehicle (but without GPS capability). GPS itself is a handy feature that encodes navigation coordinates and vehicle speed onto video so you can prove you weren't speeding, for example. I had an issue with the GPS mount because it was intermittent between the camera and the GPS (and power). Spytec said they had never heard of this problem before, but quickly replaced the camera and even paid for return shipping. I also give them 5 stars for their customer service. The changing chamber snaps securely into place. After reviewing 3 other DVRs, this one was the clear winner. It's unobtrusive, comfortable, and has excellent video quality.
