First, let me say this: This training collar is SUITABLE for Chihuahua. And if he works with this breed, then he will work with any small dog. I have a 4-5 pound Chihuahua puppy that is about five months old that I recently got and I have been looking for a training collar that will fit the dog and not damage him. This collar meets both requirements. I shortened the collar a few inches because it is long enough for other small but larger breeds than the Chihuahua. The remote control has three different ways to fix the dog: electric shock, vibration and beep. I start with sound and if that doesn't work for the dog I use vibration. I save the electrocution as a last resort. The magnitude of the shock can vary from 1 to 10, which is selected by the user on the remote's small LCD display. On my dog, the first stage is effective without causing any harm. After several uses of electric shocks, I was able to get good results with the clay alone. The collar module has a non-intuitive way to turn it on and off that users should be aware of. Due to the desire to make the collar module as waterproof as possible, there is no external switch. The charging port has a rubber plug to keep water out. The on/off switch is magnetic. To turn the collar module on or off, you need to line up a specific spot on the remote (it's a small embossed circle) with the "power" icon on the collar module for about a second or two. However, the collar is always on when removed from the charger. I've seen other reviews mention short battery life, so a word on that. Both the collar and the remote control have rechargeable batteries. Of course, these have to be charged separately, since the collar only comes with a power supply unit. At the same time, the remote control battery lasts ten to twenty times longer than the collar, so it needs to be charged less often. The battery on the collar did not die during normal use and I think many reviewers may be misusing the collar. I believe that the collar should not be put on a dog and left there all day or for a long time. I'm not sure how long the battery in the collar will last, but there's really no reason to walk more than an hour or two, and here's why: training a dog shouldn't last very long. Dog, whether collared or doing traditional activities like encouragement/praise, I will work with the dog for maybe twenty to thirty minutes at a time. If the training lasts longer, the dog will become bored/annoyed/annoyed and the result of the effort will be much less. Nobody wins. While you can keep a training collar on your dog for a long time and correct it when it does something wrong, it won't necessarily yield better or faster overall results than using it more sparingly. Again, my opinion and your opinion may differ. Another thing to understand about battery life is that battery technology is pretty bad right now. Overall, most electronic technology advances at a breakneck pace, but battery technology is still stuck in the 1990s. The only way to extend the battery life of this or any training collar is to physically make the battery much larger and heavier. You'll know battery technology is finally here when you can charge your phone in five minutes and use it at will for a week. That's why electric cars aren't in everyone's driveway. Until that happens, you'll be struggling with poor battery performance like everyone else, so you'll have to deal with it. Now back to the training collar. This is a really worthy product. It does what it's supposed to and works reasonably well. I only have a few minor issues with it that prevent me from giving it a full five stars and both are remote related. The remote control is small. Tiny. I have big hands, but even people with average hands find the remote control too small. This is an ergonomic problem, the remote control does not feel normal and comfortable in the hand, such as a TV remote control. Now you might say that the large remote control doesn't fit in your pocket or purse, and you'd be right. However, in my opinion you should never carry the remote control in your pocket or purse where it can accidentally activate and potentially injure and at best confuse your dog. But it's still too small, and I often find myself holding it upside down and hitting the vibrate button when I want to hit the sound button. Thankfully, the kick button is in the middle position, so no matter what the remote's orientation, you can't go wrong. another collar (if you have two). This switch is too easily (and accidentally) activated. I've often found that the hit level isn't where I left it (e.g. at 3 or 4 instead of 1) due to the slight tap of the switch. Sometimes I have found that it works with collar #2 instead of collar #1. This resulted in having to check the shock level and collar number every time I wanted to activate it. I don't want to hurt my dog so I have to make sure he's always on the lowest level before hitting that particular button. But all in all, these are small things, at least for me. And that's because in just a couple of weeks I'll no longer need to use the shock feature and instead just rely on the sound for correction. I will turn the collar module over so the shock sensors don't come into contact with my dog. This makes accidental electrocution or excessive shock levels inappropriate. So a good training collar if used correctly and if some of its limitations are understood and compensated for.
