I noticed on the first two fittings I used that the plastic sleeve that holds the center pin did not reach the end of the fitting. Look at the underside of the fitting from the end of the cable and you'll see that there isn't much thickness there. The first two fittings showed a short to braid after I soldered the center pin. I found that I had to trim the outer insulation cover more and then leave the inner dielectric insulation in contact with the center plastic sleeve that held the center pin longer than usual. Once I got started with this I was able to solder the center pin without shorting to the braided shield.
