I had a very hard time putting them together and putting the pieces together. I suggest simply purchasing one of the many pre-installed pin connectors, many of which are offered by the same company. (1) You need a special pin crimping tool. A regular crimping tool will not work as it is too wide to crimp the second crimp adjacent to the connector and connector heads (i.e. without hitting the surrounding, wider metal surfaces). I used a set of needle nose pliers but it's not quite a crimp. (2) I had a hell of a time snapping off the red plastic piece for the metal "female" connectors. This meant that the "dad" metal pins always repelled the "mother" metal pins for me. (3) The plastic tab holding the "male" to the "female" is either too brittle or too hard to make a connection. Plugging one connector into the other broke the plastic latch, so not only releasing but connecting the two pieces requires an actual push of the latch. That's fine if you take them off very infrequently, but I needed an easier latch. In their defense, I'm a beginner and didn't have the right tools and the parts looked good quality. But as said, there are much easier ways to do this.
