I used reflective tape to protect the new rubber ducts that I wrapped around the air conditioning refrigerant lines. Aluminum protects the rubber from dry rot, UV reflection, heat and rain. The previous pipe insulation from the installer did not last 2 years and was already dry and rotting because it was only taped in a few places and was not completely weatherproof. This caused excessive heat transfer and condensate accumulation under the refrigerant lines, reducing cooling efficiency in summer.
