My first reaction was that they should be over 6 inches. I felt like I was wearing an 8 inch or even a 10 inch boot. The ankle support is very strong. You wouldn't go hiking in these boots. They're just damn strong. However, if you work in the field, in industrial areas, or anywhere you need reliable protection for your feet, these are your boots. I mean waterproof, steel toe cap, tireless outsole. What allows you to stand all day and not have leg pain? This is just a great shoe. In addition, protection against electric shock, a very hard-wearing rubber profile, an odor protection on the sole? Tough, durable boots, ready to go. Even the grommets and grommets in the boot (where you lace them up) are solid. I tried tugging on mine and they wouldn't budge. (Timberland PRO has had issues in the past). This is a wonderful pair of boots that I would recommend to anyone working in the field, factory or around town.
