Review on 🎧 Enhance Communication with Koss SB49 Communication Stereophone: A Review by Wayne Moody

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very happy with the

The sound quality in these headphones and mics is excellent, very rich and warm, not tinny at all. The headset is comfortable and the microphone swivels and has a slight flex. Seems very well done. light but not flimsy at all. I bought this set for my son after first buying a Logitech ClearChat Premium headset but I didn't even try the Logitech set, I returned it after reading terrible reviews. These Koss SB-49 headphones probably appear similar to the SB-45, except they have a built-in volume control, which seems like a handy feature. Anyone complaining that they can't hear the microphone through the headset, or that the headset doesn't work in their online games, probably just needs to fiddle with the sound settings in Windows. I found that I had to go through the advanced Windows volume control options on a desktop computer to see the microphone controls for both recording and playback, and make sure the "Mute" box was not checked on either tab was. This solved the problem of hearing the microphone in the headset, and not just the head. However, this only works if your computer has these advanced volume controls - my laptop doesn't seem to have them. Also, my son couldn't get the microphone to work in his online game at first, and it didn't work in Windows Voice Recorder at first. At first I couldn't figure out the settings to make this work, but eventually I stumbled into the windows control panel and ran the windows sound troubleshooter to fix the microphone settings and voila, it's working great now. Now we can both hear each other through the mic when we talk, record and play online, and other people can hear us online too. There are no instructions online or in the box so I think it would be helpful if Koss added some troubleshooting steps to set it up with Windows instead of me stumbling through a week of frustration. I like that it doesn't occupy a USB port - it uses the headphone (stereo) and microphone jacks. Koss also has a lifetime no-questions-asked warranty; Returning a kit is probably an inconvenience, and I think there's some sort of handling fee, but it's still a nice touch and adds credibility.
