Review on Carib Sea ACS00120 Aquarium 15 Pound by Theresa Jones

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Raised the PH in my tank from 6.0 to 7.5.

We have a 37 gallon aquarium with native fish. mostly mollies. In the three years that we have had an aquarium, the PH has always been on the lower end of the spectrum at 6.0. After a while I read that the ideal pH for most native fish is around 7.0 while mollies are closer to 7.5. After researching this topic (how to raise pH), I found three natural solutions: 1) change water more often, 2) feed less, and 3) coral/shells. When I opened this 15 pound bag I found that most of the crushed coral was smaller than what I preferred and smaller than my existing white substrate. So. Then I went and bought a set of 4 bottom screens. This one: A 4-piece bottom strainer set (non-food), 12" diameter stainless steel and using a 0.20" strainer, I sifted an entire bag of crushed coral. By the time I was done, my 15lb product was down to 4.7lbs. then added the remaining 4.7 pounds of crushed coral to my existing substrate and left it alone. Three weeks later (today) I checked the pH value in the aquarium for the first time. 7.5! I couldn't believe it! Finally, as some others have mentioned, this bag is not 100% coral as it also contains a lot of small shells. I do not care. The product works and I love the look of the shells.
