That's exactly what I wanted to pour over while grilling. I used a bowl and a long silicone brush. It is easy to clean and very durable. Should work fine except for one design flaw. If you use it for smoking, you probably won't have this problem. I recently used it on my Weber charcoal grill and because this handle is so short you have to move really fast on a very hot grill. The other day it was almost impossible to use on my super hot grill and all the hair on my arm fell out. If you're buying it to smoke, buy it. If you are frying very hot food, use the long-handled frying pan. Believe me.
