First of all, of course, it should be noted that beer comes in all sizes, so a couple of slats for 5 shelves is very good, and the shelf seems very strong. I have found that if you use it for bottles up to 750ml and mostly pint sized glasses you only need 3 shelves. It's best to use the bottom and top for pints and the middle for larger bottles to maximize space. In my photo, I have about 25 bottles on the middle shelf. When fully filled, I get a mixture of about 60 cans/bottles. I imagine most serious beer drinkers will have bottles so they take up a lot of space so the average capacity will be half that of 12 ounce cans. Second, as far as temperature goes, the manual grip keeps everything very stable. I keep mine at 45-50 degrees in the basement, that's about 3-4 at the handle. It would be great if it had a digital sensor, but it's easy enough to buy for indoor use. All in all, this is a great purchase and quite a unique item.
