Thumbs Up From My Daughter!

This just arrived and as soon as I opened it I brought it to my daughter. Once she saw the alphabet letter she balked. She does not like doing repetitive, contrived activities that serve no immediate purpose (who does?) and often spends more time complaining about having to do the activity than doing it after she's finally gotten started. We use Handwriting Without Tears, which offers a lot of tactile ways to explore letter writing. Chalkboards, sandpaper, etc.Once I brought out the pen and showed her what happened when I traced a letter, she took to it immediately. Then she got one of her stuffed toys and I presented the other pen so they could have their own and she was so happy. She's been laughing, playing and taking turns with her toy tracing letters for the past 20 minutes, experimenting with how fast or slow she can go over the letters to get the magnets to pop up seamlessly. This and the CHUCHIK ABC Magnetic Letters Set have both been hits for her. With the magnetic letters set and white board she likes to draw pictures on it and tell stories, then spell keywords like the animal name and activity (unicorn fly, for instance). My only complaints are that it is only capital letters. I would like to have seen a set bundled with lowercase letters as well. Also, sometimes the magnets don't stay in place. Other than that, I'm very happy with it and definitely recommended it.

Pros
  • Magnetic drawing board allows for neat and mess-free creations
Cons
  • The board might not have enough magnetic pieces for kids to play with
