Like the detachable cable, it works out of the box in Win 10, not so obviously in Win 7, but seems normal once you get the hang of it.

I have a new Dell laptop with no ethernet port and was thinking of getting one of these USB to ethernet gadgets but saw it for just a few bucks more and went for it because it I like the idea of getting USB 3 ports as I have a laptop that only has a regular USB 3 port. Note that Anker makes a very similar aluminum version (apparently designed to complement a Mac) and I thought about it but then realized the cable was pinched at the end of the unit and seemed a little flimsy and it was a problem with the Stopper. What I like about this version is that while it's made of black plastic and doesn't look "cool" at all, it uses a detachable USB-3 cable (and comes with a single-leg cable) so there's no need to switch devices . due to the wear and tear of the cable or plug, and the cable is very durable. I first plugged it into a Windows 7 machine and the automatic install failed, which surprised me as something like this has been around for quite some time and 7 rarely crashes. find drivers. However, I saw something indicating that you will see an additional CD drive on your computer and if you open it and run the installer it will work fine. It happened and that's it. I then connected it to my Windows 10 laptop and it installed almost immediately without any action on my part and the connection was faster than I thought. I can't say how good the performance is yet. It "seems good" and I've had no trouble connecting a portable external hard drive even when the laptop was on battery power, although I wouldn't try that for too long. Overall, like other Anker products, it's worth it. Money. The only criticism I have is that they should make it more obvious how to do the install until Win 7 is completely gone.
