I have an old Sears Builder Square that is a bit out of service. So I'm guessing Starrett will beat the champion any day of the week, right? Imagine my surprise. This square is MADE. You read that right. PAINTED. The edge is just as wavy as you would expect from a painted edge. I can't tell if it's a square because when I put a technical square on it I see gaps interspersed with contact points. This is NOT what the world demands in carpenter squares. It's too cheap to send back. I can try to sand down the paint and see if there's a gem hidden there, but seriously, Starrett, is THAT what you're allowing to tarnish your reputation? All my other Starrett instruments are perfect. I'm disappointed.
