Good for wood but not metal

I work in a machine shop and have been using this square for less than 2 weeks and a lot of the paintwork has started to peel off causing some Places illegible as there are no punched lines. That being said, I only use this tool on metal and you might get lucky if you only use it on wood. I wouldn't buy this tool again as I suspect I'll be throwing it away in a few weeks.

Pros
  • High marks for hold and durability from testers
Cons
  • Only available in white

I've thrown away better squares than this

Totally inaccurate. I've thrown away better squares than this one. The numbers are drawn, which sucks because they wear out with use. It would still be okay if the numbers were actually measured to the centimeter. When other rulers were placed alongside, the inch markings varied from Starrett's square to 1/16th of an inch. The last inch added to the end of the long side of the 24" was 1-1/16" but the total length of the side was 24" when measured with another ruler and tape measure. Was it…

Pros
  • One year probationary period
Cons
  • No work

All my other Starrett instruments are perfect. I am disappointed

I have an old Sears Builder Square that is a bit out of service. So I'm guessing Starrett will beat the champion any day of the week, right? Imagine my surprise. This square is MADE. You read that right. PAINTED. The edge is just as wavy as you would expect from a painted edge. I can't tell if it's a square because when I put a technical square on it I see gaps interspersed with contact points. This is NOT what the world demands in carpenter squares. It's too cheap to send back. I can try to…

Pros
  • Suitcase 24" long x 2" wide
Cons
  • In doubt

Totally inaccurate I've thrown away better squares than this Numbers are drawn which sucks because they wear out with use It would still be ok if the numbers were actually measured to the centimeter Than other rulers placed next to him were used, the inch markings varied from Starrett's square up to 1/16". Square? I didn't even bother to check it out. You couldn't measure 12-16-20 on a square because the markings were so fuzzy. You would be different if you flipped it too. 10" on one side…

Pros
  • 1/8" and 1/16" graduations on front, 1/10", 1/12" and 1/16" on back
Cons
  • Not bad, but. ..

I do not recommend. Short powder paint life. Exfoliates quickly.

I've had this thing for about a year. I only used it for about 3 minutes and drew about eight straight lines on the plywood. Contained internally in a steel case, hung neatly on a perforated plate. It hasn't dropped completely, and the black powder coating is peeling, taking measurements and markings with it. The steel appears to be corroded prior to powder coating due to rust pushing the powder coating off from below. If the measurements and markings were at least stamped into the metal, it…

Pros
