Review on πŸ•οΈ ALPS Mountaineering King Kong Camping Chair by Juan Lockwood

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Sturdy, well-made, comfortable chair.

This is a great, well built and comfortable chair. Assembled with screws instead of the typical cheap rivets (DO NOT REMOVE those). Good build quality. I read pre-purchase Revain customer reviews (as always) that expressed discomfort with the back of the legs at the front of the chair. I've experienced the same thing. Before ordering, I knew the seat height front and rear is 18 inches, which is what I wanted. I took some measurements and found my butt was only 12 inches off the floor when seated. No surprising discomfort! I fixed this problem after brainstorming. I installed a 2" piece of wood on top of the rear seat supports. I cut the blocks to the same outside dimensions as the original parts, drilled a 3/4" hole for the frame to go through, and attached one screw per piece. Not very pretty, but functional. I can now get up out of a chair with ease, despite arthritis in my knees, and without undue pressure on the backs of my legs. The only downside to this King Kong chair is the smell. Smells like new carpet. I just left it on the porch for a few days and it evaporated to an odorless state. I would recommend this chair to anyone looking for a durable and comfortable alternative to a regular camp chair. I'm sure this chair will last for many years. Long live King Kong.
