Review on General Tools 81264 Rustproof Grommets by Ronald Orear

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Better sleeve, tools could be longer.

Simply the best case but the tools are a bit awkward to use (small and short). Place a small block of wood in the kit and use a short 2" x 6" block to support the shots you are going to make. I purchased a General Tools gouge punch P/N 1280. It is much sharper and longer than the punch that comes in the kit. Prepare the polyethylene tarp by wiping the grommet area with 99% isopropyl alcohol, and then use Gorilla tape to wrap the edge, extending 2 inches beyond the edge on each side. Tap the tape all around with a hammer for better adhesion to the PE tarpaulin before punching and installing the sleeve. While installing the bushing, check the installation by trying to twist (twist) the bushing. If you can't turn, that's fine. I doubled the bushing count in 4 Heavy Duty Tarp Unfinished Deck to support the expected snow weight here in Washington so deck work could continue through the winter. I definitely wish General Tools would offer bulky replacement bushings .

Pros
  • Heavy duty
Cons
  • Dull packaging
