This is a good basic humidifier but at the price of a smart humidifier. Works pretty loud. If you intend to use it in the bedroom, don't buy it unless you find white noise relaxing. "Smart" features are terrible though. The main downside is the built-in hygrostat, which reports about 15% higher humidity than any other device in my house. (I have a couple of air quality monitors and a humidistat in my HVAC thermostat.) I bought two units and both have the problem. And the readings never change: they're always between 55 and 59 percent. So if you set the humidifier to a comfortable level (e.g. 45%), it will never turn on; and try to "adjust" for inaccurate readings (e.g. by setting the target humidity to 60%) it will never turn off. The application is far from intuitive and there are almost no instructions. If you know your way around smart home devices, that's no problem. But if you don't, or give it to someone who isn't tech savvy, they're going to spend some time trying to figure it out. (For example, the target humidity setting is hidden behind the scroll box. Unfortunately, it took me a while to find the setting.) I threw away the boxes, so I can't return them. I find a solution with other smart devices and IFTTT. But I could do it with much cheaper and quieter humidifiers. Give him a passport.
