The first thing that struck me when I opened the mic box was its size. I was expecting it to be a bit smaller, but it's actually about the same size as the Rode VideoMicro. In fact, it would be easy to confuse this mic with the VideoMicro, not only in looks but in performance as well. It's currently $10-$20 cheaper depending on current offerings. In the box you will find 2 cables: a regular TRS cable to connect the microphone directly to a camera or similar device and a TRS cable so you can connect it to your smartphone. It comes with a plastic shock absorber so you can avoid vibration when handling the camera. You also get a foam windshield, as well as a windshield or dead cat. In fact, the quality of the muff is slightly better than other sub-$70 mics. There is a rigid ring in the opening that makes it easier to put on and take off the sleeve from the microphone. There is great attention to detail. This kit also includes a smartphone holder and a nice little mini tripod that reminds me of the Manfrotto Pixi mini tripod. Like the more expensive Rode VideoMicro, this microphone does not require batteries. It's plug and play. As for me, I appreciate it as I've recorded videos several times only to find out I forgot to turn on the mic when I got home to review the footage. That won't happen with this microphone. The downside of not having a battery is that you have to rely on the preamp that you plug the mic into, and some cameras don't have the cleanest of preamps, especially older Canon cameras. I personally use Panasonic and Sony cameras which have much cleaner preamps so I like that they don't have a battery. In terms of sound quality, this is a great microphone. When comparing mics like the Rode VideoMicro and the popular budget mic Takstar SGC-598 side by side, I was pretty happy with the quality of this mic. In fact, I noticed that this mic has a bit more bass than the other two. After all, this microphone improves the sound quality significantly compared to your built-in camera or smartphone microphone. At this price point, this mic is the perfect choice, and in some areas even outperforms more expensive mics. This would be a perfect choice if you're vlogging and need to improve the sound quality of your video. People will forgive you if the quality of your video is inferior. Bad sound will absolutely ruin the video and make people stop watching it immediately. So if you're looking for better sound for your videos and are on a budget, I'd happily recommend this little mic.
