Review on Gardman Blacksmith Patio Urn: 14" Width X 24.5" Height - No Longer In Production by Tim Wadman

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A nice deep planter.

Very sturdy and well made. Attractive, and deep enough to hold flowers for a few years without getting too crowded. Just one gripe, the liner was held to the top edge with small black zip ties. A good idea, but you will need to cut them off in order to remove the liner so you can see where the bolts go to mount the top to the base. So why did they even bother to put the zip ties on. It would have made more sense to just include them in the hardware so the consumer could attach them afterwards. Otherwise, a good addition to my flower display. Also, here's a tip, these liners as most all coir liners are, are very thin and let out a lot of moisture. So I always take a large piece of black plastic (a large garbage bag works fine) and install it inside the liner and cut slits at the bottom for drainage. Then trim around the top even with the top of liner AFTER filling pot with dirt, so bag can settle all the way in. This keeps moisture from evaporating way too quickly on a hot day, also keeps dirt from sifting out through thin spots after while. Works great.

Pros
  • Heavy-duty solid rod and square steel construction with welded joints
Cons
  • Heavy and Bulky
