I bought this to clean the threads on the part where the threads were distorted from welding. This tool cleaned them perfectly in a few minutes. I've also used it to remove rusty threads on our main drain clog fitting that was pretty messed up after nearly fifty years. 15 minutes later the threads on the drain and lid were cleaned and the lid screwed on securely. I would advise stopping from time to time when working with severely damaged threads to flush rust or metal particles from the threads. And no matter what, wash them off when you're done.
