Dish Hopper has a bug. When we access YouTube via Hopper, the TOSLINK optical audio is disabled, but the onboard HDMI audio still works. Reported to Dish Engineering, but who knows if they'll ever fix it. Meanwhile, this little HDMI audio de-embedder solved the problem. We looped the Hopper's HDMI output through a Newcare HDMI 2.0b audio extractor and powered our audio amplifier with optical S/PDIF. Problem solved. The box is transparent with no side effects. Comes with 5V power adapter, HDMI jumper and TOSLINK cable. Highly recommended for those rare occasions when you really need to get audio out of HDMI. >> Verification continued after 3 months >> The audio extractor still works, but I found a bug in its programming. When powered by our dish hopper receiver, the audio channels are reversed. In particular, left and right are reversed. When I moved the protocol slide switch to a different position and back again, the channels straightened out. That is, for a while. A few minutes later the channels switched again. TOSLINK supplies power to the Yamaha amplifier/decoder. Well I suppose if that's the only source you have you can just swap out the speakers. Or just ignore the problem since almost everything these days except music is the center channel. Since my return period has expired I have replaced it with another brand and put it on the curiosity shelf. I reported the issue to the seller and received a prompt reply offering a refund even though the return period had expired. They also informed me that the product had been revised and suggested that I try the latest version. You provided a link to simplify this option. I understand that problems do arise from time to time and appreciate when a seller goes out of their way to fix things. That's why I give them 4 stars, 3 stars for the product and 6 stars for their outstanding customer service.
